Reading!!
A is consumed with reading this week. She's made so much progress in the last few months! But this week it has become her new object of obsession.
She is spending the majority of her days playing Clubpenguin.com right now. It's a Kid safe community where each player gets their own penguin persona and igloo to live in, and can go out into the penguin community and meet friends, get a job, go shopping, etc. There is TONS of reading and message writing and A is just consumed with it.
She's reading quite well, but very often asks me to spell a certain word, or just needs to know one letter to help her spell a word herself. Often times she writes certain words down and keeps them in front of her for later use. So as of right now the desk top in front of the computer looks like this:
Both A and O tend to throw themselves completely and totally into one subject of interest almost fully for days and days on end. Until they get their fill and move on to the next. For her right now this is it!
But we also...
Started A's very first chapter books - Lily & Bean's Secret Treasure Box, which contains 3 small novels.
A has decided she no longer wants ANY help with the computer. She memorized my ridiculously long and complicated password ( a series of random lower and capital case letters and numbers). She now logs into the computer with password, navigates to the program she needs, and enters her own web addresses to get to the websites she likes. Not too shabby!
Did some baking - a batch of chocolate chip cookies, a loaf of white bread, and a pan of brownies.
We watched the documentary "Hunger for Change" and began watching "The Cute Show" all about raising different cute animals. The first one was about 3 breeds of cats. O started crying bcs one of the mother cats was ignoring the runt of the litter. :-(
And we watched one more animal documentary - the name escapes me but it was about unusual pairs of animals being friends. There was a goat and horse that were friends and O was again moved to tears because the goat eventually died. My poor sweet souled son.
A has made it a goal to count to 3000.
O and I were at the hospital waiting room and I mentioned how late it was getting. He glanced up at the clock and said "I know! It's almost 2 o'clock" which sort of blew my mind since I had never sat him down and taught him to read a standard clock.
A on the other hand likes to constantly practice on telling time on different clocks, as well as days of the week and studying calendars. We have several calendars around the house.
We researched more about baby nigerian dwarf goats on the internet and in youtube videos, as we'll have babies come this spring.
O spent countless hours building castles from various objects. He meshes together Jenga blocks, Angry Birds Jenga, Toy castle pieces, toy cars, and various toy figures to build elaborate structures and then knocks them down. The latest trend is to name the cat "Cat Zilla" and trick him into knocking them down. I must get pictures!
O's games - Angry Birds Star Wars, Bad Piggies, and Plant Vs. Zombies.
He's been researching all about each game and playing through. He likes to look up gameplay videos on Youtube and watch all about every aspect of every level.
Those are just the highlights. Much of our learning also comes through conversation and just plain ol' life.
