So I will have to make lists!
So I present to you - "What We've Been Up To In The Last Few Months"
As usual... Minecraft! No it's not old yet. A is always finding new ways to play, and new people to play with.
1. Creating new skins and uploading them with Novaskin
2. New servers - now we are using Unschoolers Creative City server
3. Realms. A has her own realm now (kind of like a server) that she is working on to create a small city.
Club Penguin - Nope not old yet either!
This game has taught her how to read quite proficiently! She loves it and plays almost every single day. There is even Club Penguin Parties that she marks her calendar off so she can attend online.
Due to this game I sepnd much of my time like this:
A: "Hey Mom! How do you spell [insert random word here]?"
Me: Spells random word for A.
This is her having conversations with her friends.
Business Planning.
Yep... at 7 years old A is business planning. It's one of her favorite things!
OK so maybe she is not full on financially planning a business, but we're working on that.
She always has little ideas for businesses she'd like to run.
At first it was her GMO-free Organic Lemonade Stand. Which she still talks about so that may become a future reality.
But she has her ideas for restaurants (she loves to cook!) like her whole food cafe that will be called "So Good" because all the food in it will taste soooo good.
And she often dreams of running a wildlife center or shelter.
But now we are taking things seriously! We are planing a Etsy shop in which she and I will collaborate. The plans are under way, and slightly top secret. But it will involve BOTH our input creatively and conceptually. And it will help her to understand money and finances a little better.
Gardening!
We have spent a lot of time putting in our veggie garden. She helps me shovel the dirt, and she helps with the wheel barrel. She's helped me plan what to plant and where to plant it.
We discuss companion planting and herbs and flowers. We talk a lot about compost and garden nutrients and manure.
It turns out we have an awful lot growing here from the previous owners of our little home. So we have had a lot of fun scouting the yard for edibles. We've found wild strawberries, loads of raspberry bushes, asparagus, onions, and various herbs. We've talked about gathering violets from the yard to make violet syrup, and also talked much about the medicinal properties of dandelions.
And we are composting!
She's learning all about how to compost and why, and the benefits of it for our garden and the earth.
We are raising chickens!
A and I have put together a lovely flock of chickens. We are not quite done yet. But for now we have some egg layers, some meat birds, and some silkies!
We have a lot of talks about the benefits of raising our own meat, and dairy. The silkies are a bird she has been asking for for well over a year and she finally has them. We are planning to sell the eggs and baby chicks, and hopefully learn more about showing them. A's pet silkies will become another one of her business models!
Day to Day life...
That is the bulk of things that are going on all the time, but there is sooo much more happening!1. We have been visiting various places and getting to know Maine just a little more. We're only just getting started! We have been hiking and walking, or just taking drives here and there.
We visited Moxie Falls, and the scenic outlook not far from our house. We walked across the walking bridge across the Kennebec in Skowhegan Center. We've explored the woods and little dirt roads in our own neighborhood.
2. We visited the local animal shelter to see the animals, talk about volunteers and what the shelter needs, and for the kids to ask questions. This was a big experience for A due to her interest in animal rescue. She was very moved by the whole thing.
3. Wildlife sighting/watching. This is a big thing in our house. We are all big animal lovers, and wildlife is another at the top of the list for A as learning interests. We often see deer and fox in our own backyard. We've seen snakes and mice and moles. Loads of big beautiful butterflies. All of which leads A to watch youtube videos about each of the differnet animals we encounter. And to Google more info about them.
4. New found reading has opened a wealth of possibilities. It's been months that she has been able to read most all things put in front of her, although some help with some of the complicated words. But she is finding such freedom in her ability to simple hop on the computer and look up information with no help from me.
A's new big thing is MUSIC! She is googling and youtubing and finding all kinds of new music. I introduced her to Pandora Radio which she was quite impressed with. She is exploring lots of new music.
5. A has begun learning to use Adobe Photoshop for painting and photo manipulation.
6. A now has her own email account for writing letters to family and sending pictures.
7. A started her own Youtube channel and has been experimenting with screencast apps. She wants to make her own videos and tutorials for her favorite games.
8. Art, art and more art. Her favorite thing is making paper dolls, but she also creates pictures on paper and canvas. She is currently working on a piece on canvas with sharpies.
9. Goats! A helps with feeding and care of our goats.
10. Movies, documentaries, and videos.
11. Grocery shopping
12. The farmer's market
13. Making friends, play dates, etc
14. Helping with cooking and baking (we have been working on learning fractions with our measuring cups!)
15. Helping out around the house with sweeping, wiping tables and washing windows, etc...
16. Being outside in general. Soaking up the sun, picking flowers, blowing bubbles, spraying the house, watering the garden, looking at the clouds, collecting rocks, etc.
